About Dr. Brian E. Russell...
Dr. Brian E. Russell is a dedicated musician, researcher, and educator who has served South Florida since 1996. Dr. Russell is currently a lecturer at the University of Miami Frost School of Music where he serves as Director of Contemporary Guitar for the Bruce Hornsby Creative American Music Program and Director Assessment. His previous experience includes teaching instrumental music at middle school, senior high school, college levels.
Dr. Russell performs regularly in the Miami, Ft. Lauderdale, and West Palm Beach areas. His musical background in jazz and contemporary styles (rock/pop/ country, bluegrass, etc.) has provided performance opportunities in a variety of musical settings for over 25 years. Currently (as of Summer 2015), Brian is getting ready for the release of an EP that features his original compositions.
Currently, Dr. Russell is continuing an ongoing line of research concerning performance measurement paradigms, jazz theory knowledge acquisition, creativity in jazz improvisation, and measurement development. He has research articles in print and in-press with several top tier national and international music education research journals and has presented his research both nationally and internationally at music education conferences. He also serves on the editorial committee for the International Journal of Music Education.
The goal of www.BrianRussellMusic.com is to provide musical and educational resources for guitarists, music educators, and music researchers. This website combines music media, research abstracts, professional opinions, and various music education resources and provides an arena to discuss current music topics in music and music education. The media contained herein is a collection of both video and audio performances that have been collected over the past few years. Research descriptions on this site contains both published and in-progress research. The weekly blog contains posts on timely issues on the subjects of music performance, education, research, and issues facing those looking to venture into the field of music education.
